Houthi Official Assaults Khat Sellers in Ibb City

In a recent unsettling development, a Houthi militia authority, identified as Bilal Al-Dar, appointed as the director of the Cleanliness and Improvement Fund in Ibb province, has reportedly assaulted several khat sellers in the city of Ibb. This incident underscores the ongoing violations and the tense atmosphere under Houthi control in the region.

Altercation Leads to Violence

Local sources revealed that the confrontation occurred on Monday when Al-Dar visited Al-Baraka market to purchase khat. A verbal altercation broke out between him and a khat seller named Zakaria Al-Maliki, along with several of his colleagues. The situation quickly escalated as the Houthi official resorted to physical assault, verbal abuse, and even brandished a weapon at Al-Maliki.

Escalation and Community Response

Further reports indicate that Al-Dar, in a show of force, summoned his sons and armed Houthi militants to join him in attacking the group of khat sellers who had rallied in support of their colleague to prevent his abduction. This aggressive act by the Houthi authority not only highlights the misuse of power but also the solidarity among the local vendors in the face of such threats.

Widespread Violations in Ibb

Ibb province, under the grip of the Houthi militia, has witnessed extensive violations against its residents. Despite the community’s resistance and condemnation of these actions, the Houthi militia continues to impose its rule through intimidation and violence, affecting the daily lives and safety of the people in the area.

This incident has sparked outrage and calls for immediate action to protect the rights and well-being of the local population, urging an end to the impunity enjoyed by Houthi officials. The international community and human rights organizations are closely monitoring the situation, advocating for justice and accountability in Ibb province.

The assault on khat sellers in Ibb city by a Houthi official not only sheds light on the ongoing struggles faced by Yemenis but also emphasizes the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and restoration of law and order in the region.
