The Houthi militia has intensified its campaign of violations in Ibb Governorate, characterized by a troubling increase in abductions, killings, and deliberate medical neglect. This escalation poses a significant threat to both security and humanitarian conditions in the region under their control.
Local sources reported that on Tuesday morning, the militia conducted raids on several homes in the village of Khalaqa, situated in the Al-Zulm district of Al-Nadira, east of Ibb. This operation instilled fear among the local population, particularly women and children, as five citizens affiliated with the Salafi movement were abducted without clear justification. This alarming incident follows the recent abduction of 20 civilians in the nearby village of Al-Jabeeb, highlighting the ongoing violations committed against innocent civilians.
In a separate incident, a security operation by the militia resulted in the shooting of a young man from the Al-Ameesi family in the Al-Aqira area of Samara, located in the Al-Mukhader district, north of the governorate. The militia killed the young man while attempting to arrest him under the pretext of being wanted. This incident underscores the violent tactics employed by the militia against citizens.
Additionally, in the central prison of the governorate, prisoner Mousa Saleh Mohammed Al-Jabri succumbed to deliberate medical neglect. Al-Jabri suffered from intestinal and stomach ailments for an entire year without receiving adequate treatment, as prison authorities consistently refused to transfer him to a hospital or provide necessary healthcare. His condition deteriorated significantly in recent days, and although he received medical attention at the last moment, he tragically passed away before reaching the hospital.
Al-Jabri is among many prisoners who have died in recent years due to neglect and torture in militia-run prisons, according to human rights sources. Ibb Governorate has witnessed a surge in violations over the years, including extrajudicial killings, abductions, and property theft, all occurring amid a complete absence of justice and a worsening humanitarian crisis for the residents.
