Houthi Militias Arrest 1,063 Individuals Amid September 26 Revolution Celebrations

The Iranian-backed Houthi militias have detained 1,063 individuals across several provinces in Yemen, coinciding with the celebrations for the anniversary of the September 26 Revolution.

Details from Human Rights Network

Mohammed Al-Omdah, the head of the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms, provided insights to the Yemeni News Agency (Saba). He reported that among those arrested, 450 were taken into custody last year. In 2025 alone, the militias committed approximately 613 cases of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearances in areas such as Sana’a, the capital, Hajjah, Amran, Al-Dhale, Dhamar, Ibb, Saada, Al-Mahwit, and Al-Hudaydah.

Surge in Violations

Al-Omdah highlighted a troubling trend, noting that September witnessed 123 documented cases of home invasions and raids. These actions stemmed from citizens’ intentions to celebrate the Yemeni Revolution and display the national flag. He emphasized that September marked a new wave of arbitrary arrests and kidnappings.

Methods of Arrest

The arrests frequently occur in public spaces, homes, markets, and mosques. Victims often face restraints, and their phones and documents are confiscated before being transported to undisclosed detention locations. Many families remain unaware of their loved ones’ fates due to enforced disappearances.

Climate of Fear

Al-Omdah asserted that these violations reveal the extent of fear gripping the Houthi militias as national events approach. This fear manifests as collective hysteria, prompting the militias to pursue citizens merely for displaying the national flag or expressing their allegiance to the Yemeni Republic. He holds the Houthi militias fully responsible for the safety of the abducted individuals.
