Houthi Militia Allegedly Executes Prominent Tribal Leader in Al-Jawf

Allegations Against Houthi Militia

Tribal and human rights sources have accused the Houthi militia of executing prominent tribal leader Nasser bin Hassan Al-Salahi at a security checkpoint in Al-Jawf. This incident occurred shortly after Al-Salahi participated in a tribal gathering organized by the Dham tribes, which aimed to protest the detention of Sheikh Hamad bin Rashid Al-Hazmi.

Incident Details

According to reports, Al-Salahi received a call from his brothers, who informed him that they were being detained at a security checkpoint due to a lack of personal identification. Upon his arrival at the checkpoint, militia members opened fire on him and his brothers without warning. This attack resulted in Al-Salahi’s immediate death and triggered clashes that left several militia members either dead or injured.

Widespread Human Rights Condemnation

The Justice Organization for Rights and Development has condemned the incident, asserting that it represents more than a random act of murder; it is a direct assault on the very foundation of tribal unity. The organization emphasized that the Houthi militia has intensified its campaign of targeted killings against tribal leaders, aiming to instill fear within the tribal community and erode its bonds.

Moreover, the organization characterized the events in Al-Jawf as a form of “extermination of social symbols.” They have urged human rights organizations and international bodies to acknowledge the gravity of these violations, categorizing them as war crimes that must not go unpunished.

This incident follows a significant tribal gathering in Al-Jawf, which took place just days prior, in response to the militia’s detention of a local chief. These occurrences reflect a systematic policy targeting the tribal structure in regions under Houthi control over several years.
