Houthi Militias Cause Displacement of Over 2,000 Families in Taiz and Hodeidah

The Executive Unit for Managing Displaced Camps reported significant displacement in Yemen due to escalating violence from Houthi militias, which receive support from the Iranian regime. As of September 5, 2026, 2,183 families have fled their homes in the Taiz and Hodeidah governorates, seeking safer areas.

Displacement Statistics

According to the Executive Unit’s statement, Taiz has seen the highest number of displaced families, totaling 1,643, which includes 8,896 individuals. In Hodeidah, 540 families have been displaced, with 394 families settling in Hays and 146 in Al-Khawkhah.

Urgent Humanitarian Needs

Displaced families face urgent humanitarian needs, including shelter, non-food items, food, water, sanitation, cash assistance, healthcare, protection, and psychological support. Many newly displaced families still require immediate humanitarian aid.

Ongoing Monitoring and Coordination Efforts

The Executive Unit continues to monitor and document displacement movements, assess the needs of families, and coordinate with local authorities, government agencies, and humanitarian organizations. This collaboration aims to expedite responses and direct assistance to the most vulnerable families.

Call for International Support

The Executive Unit urges the United Nations, international and local organizations, donors, and humanitarian partners to intervene swiftly. They emphasize the need to provide urgent assistance to displaced families and enhance responses in both displacement and reception areas.

Appreciation for Local Communities

The Executive Unit expressed gratitude to local communities that have welcomed displaced families. Their solidarity and willingness to open their homes have been invaluable. The unit also acknowledged the efforts of local authorities in facilitating the reception of displaced individuals and assisting in addressing the challenges of displacement.
