Houthi militia closes “One Mall” in Ibb amid rising violations against the private sector.

Houthi Militia Closes “One Mall” in Ibb, Detains Management

On Saturday, the Houthi militia took decisive action by closing the “One Mall” commercial center in Ibb Governorate. They also detained the mall’s administrative manager and the security officer. The mall’s management described this move as “arbitrary,” marking yet another instance of the militia’s ongoing violations against private sector institutions in areas under their control.

Houthi Security Forces Raid Mall

According to an official statement from the mall’s management, the Houthi security forces stormed the premises, forcibly breaking and changing locks on various doors, including those of the administration and accounting offices. The management emphasized that the mall’s administration no longer holds any authority over the center.

Legal Responsibility and Accountability

The statement clarified that the management does not accept any legal or administrative responsibility for any unlawful actions that may affect the mall’s financial and administrative properties. They placed full responsibility for any potential losses on the Ibb security administration, while reserving the right to pursue legal action against those responsible.

Continued Detention of Management

As per the statement, both the administrative manager and the security officer remain in detention without any official charges or legal justification. Additionally, the main trader has been barred from entering the mall or delivering goods for over 40 days. This situation is particularly concerning as the commercial center provides jobs for 225 employees and collaborates with 500 suppliers from various local companies.

Concerns Over Forced Nationalization

Local sources report attempts by partners backed by influential Houthis to seize shares from other partners within the mall. This action clearly violates partnership principles and property rights, raising alarm about the potential forced nationalization of the private sector in areas controlled by the militia.

The situation at “One Mall” highlights the escalating tensions and challenges faced by the private sector in Houthi-controlled regions, prompting calls for urgent attention and intervention.
