Houthi militia abducts the brother of journalist Mohammed Al-Miyahi, escalating tensions in the region.

Houthi Militias Intensify Kidnappings in Ibb Governorate

In a troubling escalation of violence, Houthi militias have kidnapped Imad Al-Miyahi, the brother of journalist Mohammed Dubwan Al-Miyahi, from his home in the Al-Far’a district of Ibb Governorate. This incident occurred just two days after the militia abducted Mohammed from his residence in Sana’a.

Details of the Kidnapping Incident

Local sources reported that Houthi forces stormed the Al-Ahmoul area in Al-Far’a on the evening of Sunday, following the abduction of Imad. The militants forcibly took him from his home and transported him to an undisclosed location.

Previously, on Friday morning, Houthi militants raided Mohammed Dubwan Al-Miyahi’s apartment in Sana’a. They arrested him after he published posts criticizing the militia and its leader. The ongoing targeting of journalists and critics underscores the oppressive atmosphere in areas controlled by the Houthis.

Wider Campaign of Abductions

The Houthi militia has expanded its campaign of abductions in Ibb Governorate. In addition to the Miyahi brothers, they kidnapped Jamil Ahmed Abdulwahab, a local community leader in the Al-Mudaria neighborhood of Ibb city. Additionally, they apprehended Ahmed Mohammed Amin Al-Humaidi from the Al-Sarah area in Al-Far’a, allegedly due to their calls to celebrate the anniversary of Yemen’s September 26 Revolution.

Continued Violence Against Activists

Since the beginning of September, the Houthi militia has intensified its kidnapping operations, particularly targeting activists, politicians, educators, and social figures. This surge in abductions appears to be a direct response to expressions of joy surrounding the 26 September Revolution, which marks its 62nd anniversary this coming Thursday.

As the situation develops, the international community watches closely, concerned about the implications for human rights and freedom of expression in Yemen. The actions of the Houthi militia highlight the ongoing struggle for democracy and civil liberties in the region.
