On Thursday, a doctor at Al-Thawra Government Hospital in Sana’a faced a humiliating assault by Houthi militia guards at the hospital’s entrance. This incident highlights the ongoing violations against medical personnel in areas controlled by the group.
Sources informed “Yemen Youth Net” that Dr. Mohammed Dubwan, a cardiologist with years of experience, suffered both humiliation and physical abuse from the guards after they denied him entry through a gate designated for patients. Meanwhile, hospital management has forced staff to use a back entrance meant exclusively for employees in recent days.
The sources revealed that the guards attacked Dr. Dubwan violently and in a degrading manner. This incident reflects a broader pattern of ongoing harassment faced by doctors and medical workers, who often endure long hours without receiving their salaries. Such practices underscore the severe challenges that medical personnel encounter under the current conditions.
This incident is part of a larger series of violations perpetrated by the Houthi militia against the medical sector in their controlled regions. Government hospitals struggle with operational deficits, while the militia maintains strict control over private hospitals. This situation exacerbates the suffering of both patients and healthcare workers, indicating a blatant disregard for the rights of those in this vital sector.
In light of these circumstances, the medical sector in Yemen urgently requires support to protect its workers and ensure their rights. This assistance is crucial to address the growing challenges that hinder the provision of adequate healthcare to patients.
