Houthi escalation in Taiz; the National Army confirms its high readiness to respond effectively.

Escalating Houthi Attacks in Taiz: National Army Confirms High Readiness

In recent days, the Houthi militia has intensified its military operations across several battlefronts. This escalation coincides with the deployment of new reinforcements to conflict zones. Observers suggest that the Houthi strategy aims to secure territorial gains and offset their accumulated military failures over the past years.

National Army Operations Against the Houthis

This uptick in Houthi activity occurs as the National Army successfully thwarted a Houthi attack west of Taiz Governorate. Simultaneously, they detonated a bridge on Al-Arbaeen Street in the northern part of the city. Additionally, government forces managed to repel a large-scale assault by the militia on their positions in northern Al-Dhale, marking the second successful defense in just a few days.

Analysis of Houthi Escalation

Amid these developments, Colonel Abdulrahman Al-Yousufi, director of the media center for the Taiz axis, explained that the Houthi escalation carries both political and military implications. He emphasized that the National Army continuously assesses the evolving battlefield conditions and does not rule out any potential escalation scenarios.

Al-Yousufi noted that the Houthi movements occur against a backdrop of shifting political and international dynamics, including negotiations related to prisoner exchanges. He speculated that the militia aims to achieve military objectives while simultaneously sending political messages.

Military Readiness and Operational Coordination

Colonel Al-Yousufi confirmed that the military institution conducts ongoing evaluations of the situation across various fronts, both at the tactical and strategic levels. He pointed out that the nature of the Houthi militia complicates the exclusion of any military options they might pursue in the near future.

Regarding operational coordination, Al-Yousufi explained that a central operations room in the Ministry of Defense oversees military activities nationwide. Additionally, joint operations rooms connect various military axes and neighboring regions. These rooms are active and effectively manage and coordinate combat operations.

National Army Preparedness to Face Challenges

Al-Yousufi attributed the repeated Houthi infiltration attempts and combat operations to the militia’s ongoing escalation policy. He affirmed that these movements are politically motivated, with the potential for military gains.

When discussing the possibility of transitioning from defense to offense, he clarified that the process has already begun with the integration of military formations and the unification of leadership structures. However, the decision to launch large-scale offensive operations remains a political one.

In conclusion, Al-Yousufi asserted that the National Army possesses high readiness and the capability to engage in a comprehensive battle whenever the necessary conditions arise. He highlighted that efforts to unify command and activate joint operations rooms represent significant steps in this direction. Furthermore, he noted that the erosion of popular support for the Houthi militia in their controlled areas is a crucial factor in any battle aimed at restoring the state and ending the coup.
