On Friday, a devastating flood swept away four members of a family in Ibb City, marking the fourth such incident in just two weeks within the province.
Local sources confirmed that the victims included Mohammed Abdullah Al-Saidi, aged 55, his wife, and two of their children. The family encountered the flood while driving on a side road that had transformed into a raging waterway. Reports indicate that Al-Saidi had recently returned from a long stay in the United States and was unfamiliar with the city’s changing terrain due to recent rains. This lack of awareness contributed to the tragic event occurring just days after his return.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies and transported them to a local hospital’s morgue. Community members expressed profound sorrow over the incident, which highlights the dangers of inadequate infrastructure and the recurring accidents caused by heavy rains and floods in the region.
This tragedy follows similar incidents in which four individuals lost their lives in Al-Hazm Al-Adin District, a woman died in Al-Rudmah, and two others perished in the city. These events have sparked increasing calls for local authorities to enhance safety measures and improve rainwater drainage systems.
The recent floods in Ibb serve as a stark reminder of the urgent need for infrastructure improvements to prevent further loss of life. Community leaders and residents alike are advocating for immediate action to address these ongoing safety concerns.
