A recent government report reveals that 6,112 displaced families in Marib Governorate have had to abandon their rented homes and seek refuge in camps during 2024. This alarming trend stems from rising rents and an inability to pay, exacerbated by economic decline, unemployment, and soaring living costs.
The Executive Unit for Managing Displaced Persons Camps in Marib highlights the challenging conditions these families face in meeting their basic needs. The report emphasizes the urgent need for increased humanitarian assistance and the establishment of an emergency stockpile in critical sectors such as shelter, food and non-food items, and water and sanitation.
The report also notes a new wave of displacement in the past year, with an additional 1,717 displaced families arriving from various provinces. These families fled due to violations, persecution, and renewed armed conflict, prompting many to seek a more stable environment.
In response to the growing crisis, the Executive Unit urges humanitarian organizations to boost humanitarian funding and establish a recovery and reconstruction fund. This initiative aims to address the increasing gap in humanitarian needs within the governorate.
Marib faces increased pressure on essential services due to the ongoing influx of displaced individuals. This situation necessitates an immediate response from relevant authorities to ensure that these families receive the necessary support.
The report underscores the critical need for coordinated efforts to alleviate the suffering of displaced families and stabilize the region.
