Three children lost their lives and another sustained injuries today due to a landmine explosion in the village of Makshush, located in the Abs district of Hajja Governorate. The landmine, reportedly planted by Houthi militia backed by the Iranian regime, poses a severe threat to local residents.
Local sources informed the Yemeni News Agency (Saba) that the four children were tending to their sheep when the landmine detonated. The victims included Abdullah Ali Jaar Rahal, 14, Ali Yahya Jaar Rahal, 13, and Hussein Mousa Ahmed Majdoub, 15. The injured child, Mohammed Mousa Yahya Ahmed Majdoub, 14, is currently receiving treatment in intensive care.
This tragic incident follows the deaths of six other citizens earlier due to landmine explosions in the same village. The Houthi militia has planted these explosives along roads, farms, and grazing areas, creating a constant threat to the lives of local residents, particularly children and women.
Residents of the area have called on international and humanitarian organizations to take action. They urge these groups to assist in clearing the landmines and to pressure the Houthi militia to cease their dangerous practices of booby-trapping roads and farmland.
The ongoing threat of landmines in Yemen continues to endanger innocent lives. As the community mourns the loss of these young lives, the need for urgent intervention becomes increasingly critical.
