Yemen's Foreign Ministry Condemns Houthi Militia's Raid on UN Office

Sana’a Office Breach

In a bold statement released on Thursday, Yemen’s Foreign Ministry vehemently condemned the Houthi militia’s recent attack on the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights’ office in Sana’a. The militants not only invaded the premises but also seized documents and properties, marking yet another instance in their ongoing systematic assaults on international organizations and their staff.

Call for Relocation

The Ministry underscored the urgency of relocating the Commissioner’s office, along with all other international organizations, to the temporary capital, Aden, as swiftly as possible. This move aims to enable these entities to carry out their mandated tasks without the looming threats posed by the Houthi insurgents, ensuring the continued operation, safety, and security of their employees.

International Community’s Role

Furthermore, Yemen’s Foreign Ministry appealed to the international community to exert maximum pressure on the Houthis to immediately and unconditionally release all detained employees of international organizations and humanitarian workers. These individuals currently face inhumane detention conditions. The Ministry holds the Houthis fully responsible for the lives and safety of all detainees.

This condemnation and call for action highlight the ongoing challenges faced by international organizations in conflict zones and the critical need for a safe environment to conduct humanitarian and human rights work.
