Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Muammar Al-Eryani, announced the successful evacuation of all stranded tourists to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. This announcement followed the departure of the last evacuation flight operated by Yemenia Airways from Socotra, carrying 109 passengers. With this flight, all foreign tourists have now been safely transported.
The minister praised the professional efforts of Yemenia Airways, led by Captain Nasser Mahmoud and his deputy for commercial affairs, Mohsen Haidara. He emphasized that their dedication reflects a high level of national competence in managing this humanitarian operation.
Al-Eryani expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its facilitation and cooperation, which directly contributed to the success of the evacuation process.
The minister also announced the launch of regular direct international flights between Socotra and Jeddah starting in February. This initiative aims to bolster confidence in Socotra as a safe global tourist destination. Additionally, a new international route will open between Al-Mokha Airport and Jeddah Airport.
In related news, the minister confirmed the resumption of domestic flights. The first flight from Al-Ghaydah Airport in Al-Mahrah Governorate to Socotra will take off tomorrow, Sunday. This development signifies the regularization of air traffic and enhances connectivity for the archipelago, marking a return to normalcy.
