Egypt’s president: Our country is facing a severe water scarcity crisis.

Egypt's Water Crisis: President Sisi Addresses Challenges and Solutions

On Friday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi announced that the government is actively working to increase the availability of desalinated and treated water. This initiative aims to combat the country’s pressing water scarcity issue.

Economic Reforms and Their Impact

President Sisi highlighted the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) recognition of Egypt’s economic reform trajectory. He noted that these reforms have bolstered the state’s capabilities and expanded the number of Egyptian companies operating across various sectors. As a result, the national economy and job market have seen positive developments.

Importance of State Resources

During a visit to the Military Academy early Friday, President Sisi emphasized the importance of understanding the state’s resources. He stated, “It is crucial to recognize that the resources of the state determine its ability to provide adequate services and a suitable standard of living for citizens.”

He further elaborated that the issue extends beyond mere political will. “No official at any level desires anything less than the best for their people,” he asserted, urging everyone to remain aware of this critical point.

Reflecting on a Decade of Challenges

President Sisi called for an evaluation of the challenges Egypt has faced over the past decade. He asserted that any hardships experienced by individuals or families can have long-lasting effects on society. He recalled significant events from 2011 to 2013, emphasizing that every change carries substantial costs and impacts on the nation.

Job Creation Through National Projects

The president noted that national projects established in recent years have contributed to reducing unemployment rates. These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to tackling economic challenges and improving job opportunities for citizens.

Egypt’s Role in Regional Stability

In addition to domestic issues, President Sisi addressed Egypt’s efforts to mediate peace in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023. He explained that Egypt is doing everything possible, in collaboration with the international community, to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and promote stability in the region amid escalating regional and international challenges.

As Egypt navigates its water crisis and economic reforms, President Sisi’s remarks underscore the government’s proactive approach to addressing these critical issues. By focusing on resource management and regional stability, Egypt aims to enhance the quality of life for its citizens while contributing to broader peace efforts in the Middle East.
