Meeting Highlights Political, Economic, and Security Issues

Today, Dr. Abdullah Alimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with ambassadors from European Union (EU) member states to discuss the latest developments in Yemen’s political, economic, and security landscape. The meeting addressed the ongoing Houthi escalation against commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, emphasizing the implications of these attacks on the global economy and their economic repercussions for the Yemeni people.

Overview of Political Developments

During the meeting, Dr. Alimi engaged with ambassadors from various EU countries, including the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, and Slovenia. He highlighted recent political updates and discussed how regional and international developments impact peace efforts in Yemen. Dr. Alimi reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to supporting comprehensive and lasting peace based on established Arab, regional, and international references.

Appreciation for EU Support

Dr. Alimi expressed gratitude for the EU’s humanitarian and developmental support to Yemen. He commended the EU’s political stance in favor of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. He noted the shared interests between Yemen and EU member states, emphasizing their collaborative efforts to maintain security and stability in the region.

Call for Increased Support

The council member stressed the urgent need to enhance support for the Yemeni government, particularly given the challenging economic conditions stemming from halted oil exports due to Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and infrastructure.

EU Ambassadors Reaffirm Commitment

In response, the EU ambassadors reiterated their support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. They expressed their commitment to UN and regional efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen. The ambassadors emphasized the EU’s ongoing dedication to improving humanitarian and economic conditions amid existing challenges, as well as activating developmental partnerships to foster stability and peace in Yemen.
