Dr. Abdullah Alimi Meets UK Ambassador to Yemen

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – On Monday, Dr. Abdullah Alimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed the UK Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif. Their meeting focused on the strong bilateral relations between the two nations and the latest developments in Yemen.

UK Support for Yemen

Dr. Alimi praised the UK’s unwavering support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. He highlighted the UK’s crucial role in assisting the Yemeni people on both international and humanitarian fronts. Additionally, he acknowledged the UK’s contributions in economic, political, and security sectors.

Strengthening Government Performance

During the discussion, Dr. Alimi expressed gratitude for Ambassador Sharif’s efforts to promote unity within the council. He emphasized the importance of enhancing the performance of the government and the Central Bank in economic and financial matters. Dr. Alimi reassured that the council remains steadfast under the leadership of President Rashad Al-Alimi, focusing on overcoming challenges, particularly in ending the Houthi coup and restoring state institutions.

Economic Reforms and Initiatives

Dr. Alimi also stressed the significance of British support in implementing economic reforms. He mentioned key initiatives such as the “Tafi” program, support for the Coast Guard, and the organization of a maritime security conference. Furthermore, he highlighted preparations for a donor conference aimed at bolstering the health sector in Yemen.

In response, Ambassador Abda Sharif reaffirmed the UK’s full support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. She emphasized her country’s commitment to fostering political and economic stability in collaboration with regional and international partners.
