The Mothers of the Abducted Association has strongly condemned the ongoing abduction of lawyer Abdul Majid Sabra by Houthi militia, which has persisted for over two weeks. The association demands his immediate and unconditional release, holding the group fully responsible for his life and safety.
In a recent statement, the association emphasized that Sabra’s abduction, known for his courageous defense of detainees and the forcibly disappeared, constitutes a blatant violation of humanitarian laws and norms. This act represents a systematic attack on human rights work, aiming to silence voices advocating for justice and undermining the internationally recognized right to defense.
The association urges all lawyers and local and international human rights organizations to take a firm stance in protecting human rights defenders. They stress the importance of upholding the rule of law in the face of the arbitrary practices employed by the Houthi group.
The militia abducted lawyer Sabra at the end of September in the capital, Sana’a, and took him to an undisclosed location. This action followed a coordinated campaign of incitement led by influential figures within the group, including Abdul Wahab Al-Khail, the legal advisor in the Houthi-controlled Ministry of Interior.
