Deputy Chief of Staff meets with UN envoy’s military advisor for strategic talks.

Yemeni Military Official Meets UN Envoy's Military Advisor Amid Houthi Aggressions

Aden, Yemen – In a significant development, Major General Ahmed Al-Basr, the Deputy Chief of General Staff, convened with Antony Howard, the military advisor to the UN envoy, and his accompanying delegation at the Defense Ministry’s headquarters in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital, on Sunday.

Discussions on Military Situations and Houthi Militia Aggressions

The meeting focused on the evolving military scenarios in the backdrop of ongoing assaults by the Houthi militia on the positions of the armed forces across various battlefronts. Major General Al-Basr elucidated to the UN envoy’s advisor that the Houthi militia, with backing from the Iranian regime, harbors a regressive racial project aimed at destabilizing Yemen and the wider region. He emphasized the militia’s disinterest in peace.

Concerns Over International Stance and Maritime Threats

Al-Basr expressed his bewilderment at the international community’s leniency towards the Houthi militias despite their clear terrorist activities, which include attacking commercial ships and international navigation routes. He highlighted the daily crimes and violations committed by the militia against Yemeni citizens, particularly in areas under their forceful control.

He reminded of the Defense Ministry’s repeated warnings about the dangers of complacency towards the Houthi threats to international shipping lanes, which could embolden other terrorist groups to disrupt global peace and security. Al-Basr called for serious international support for the government and armed forces to restore security and stability and end the threats posed by the Iran-backed militia.

UN’s Commitment to Peace in Yemen

On his part, the UN envoy’s military advisor stated that the United Nations is earnestly reassessing the situation to achieve peace in Yemen amidst the severe and critical developments the country is enduring.

The meeting was also attended by key military officials, including the commander of the military police, Major General Mohammed Al-Shaeri, Deputy Chief of War Operations, Major General Naji Abbas, and Brigadier General Masfer Al-Harthy.

This high-level engagement underscores the international and local concerns regarding Yemen’s security situation and the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
