Strengthening Defense Ties: Yemen and Russia Discuss Enhanced Cooperation

In a significant meeting today, Yemen’s Defense Minister, Major General Mohsen Al-Daeri, and his Russian counterpart, Deputy Defense Minister General Alexander Fomin, explored opportunities to bolster defense cooperation between their nations. The discussions, aimed at deepening the friendly ties, covered a range of topics including military education, technical advancements, and the exchange of expertise.

A Century of Friendship and Collaboration

Highlighting the historical depth of the relationship between Yemen and Russia, which spans nearly a century, Minister Al-Daeri emphasized the multifaceted cooperation that exists between the two countries. He particularly noted Russia’s contributions to training and equipping the Yemeni Armed Forces, underscoring the importance of such support in strengthening Yemen’s military capabilities.

Confronting Challenges to Peace

The Yemeni Defense Minister also addressed the ongoing challenges posed by the Houthi militia’s refusal to embrace peace, pointing out their role in militarizing the Red Sea with attacks on ships and international navigation routes. Al-Daeri reaffirmed the Yemeni government’s commitment to achieving peace and restoring stability in the country and the region. He stressed that supporting the Yemeni government and its armed forces is crucial for ending the coup, reclaiming state institutions, and ensuring security and stability nationwide.

Russia’s Stance on Cooperation

Echoing the sentiments of partnership and collaboration, Deputy Defense Minister Fomin of Russia emphasized the importance of expanding the partnership between the two friendly nations. This reflects a mutual interest in strengthening defense and military cooperation, which is seen as a cornerstone for enhancing regional security and stability.
