Council member Tariq Saleh reaffirms support for teachers and the development of Taiz Governorate.

Taiz, Yemen – Today, Tariq Saleh, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, chaired a meeting with the executive office of Taiz Governorate. The meeting, held in the city of Al-Mokha, aimed to assess ongoing performance and identify developmental needs to alleviate the suffering of the local population. Governor Nabil Shamsan and other key officials attended the session, including Deputy Governor Rashad Al-Akhali and Colonel Mujahid Al-Hazourah, head of the coastal security sector.

Emphasis on Education and Teacher Support

During the meeting, Saleh highlighted the critical importance of supporting teachers and enhancing the educational process in the province. He expressed his commitment to the Education Support Fund and emphasized the need to alleviate the hardships faced by teachers. This support aims to empower educators to nurture informed generations equipped with knowledge, countering the systematic ignorance imposed by Houthi militias, which actively undermine education and promote sectarian ideologies. Saleh proposed including teachers in food assistance programs to help them cope with challenging circumstances.

Infrastructure Development Initiatives

Saleh also discussed several initiatives to accelerate the operation of Al-Mokha Port and Taiz International Airport. He outlined productive steps taken in this regard, including plans for an additional 40-megawatt power station to serve the industrial and investment zones in Al-Mokha. Furthermore, he mentioned the near completion of the urban planning project for Al-Mokha, aimed at enhancing the city’s status as an economic and investment hub.

Addressing Humanitarian Challenges

The Presidential Council member reiterated his readiness to exert all efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of the Houthi designation as a terrorist organization on Taiz. He pointed out ongoing discussions with American officials and other entities to ensure continued support for health, water, sanitation, and road infrastructure. Saleh praised the generous assistance provided by the UAE Red Crescent in various sectors and their willingness to support the construction of dams and barriers to benefit agriculture. He stressed the urgency of preparing studies for essential dams to support farmers in the province.

Transportation and Accessibility Improvements

In his remarks about the ongoing second phase of the road project aimed at breaking the siege on Taiz (covering Al-Mokha, Mawza, and Al-Kadha), Saleh directed officials to study the third phase of the project. This phase involves rehabilitating the Al-Bayrin to Jabal Habashi road to facilitate the movement of large trucks and transport goods, ultimately reducing transportation costs and easing travel for passengers.

Strategic Projects for Economic Growth

Governor Nabil Shamsan presented the meeting’s agenda, which included several critical issues and projects related to teachers and the operation of Al-Mokha Port and Airport. He emphasized that the operationalization of these facilities, along with the establishment of wind and renewable energy stations, represents strategic projects that will meet the needs of the province and provide resources for its developmental requirements. These initiatives aim to bring about a significant transformation in a densely populated area affected by war and blockade.

Continued Support for Education

Shamsan also discussed the implementation of various strategic projects, including main road networks, educational complexes, and electricity stations, all guided by Tariq Saleh’s directives. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts to support education and teachers, including the establishment of a transparent Education Fund to meet the needs of educators in the province. Shamsan expressed gratitude for Saleh’s guidance in supporting the fund and providing food assistance to teachers in the field.

Addressing Workforce Shortages

The governor addressed solutions to the shortage of educational and health personnel in coastal districts. He proposed allocating seats in public and private universities for students from these districts and coordinating with relevant offices to replace staff in service facilities.

Challenges and Coordination Efforts

During the meeting, directors from the districts of Al-Mokha, Al-Wazi’ah, Mawza, and Dhubab presented their challenges and needs, discussing coordination efforts with executive offices to enhance performance. They appreciated the governor’s significant attention to the conditions in coastal districts and the needs of their residents in education, health, agriculture, and water barriers.

Reports on Financial and Administrative Conditions

The Deputy Governor reviewed the situation in the districts and presented reports from directors of finance, civil service, education, planning, international cooperation, resource management, transportation, taxes, and zakat duties.

Port Development Updates

Attendees listened to a report from the Deputy Head of Ports Authority and the Director of Al-Mokha Port, Engineer Abdul Malik Al-Sharabi. The report outlined the procedures related to the port’s development phases, health quarantine, efficiency studies, economic feasibility, and coordination with the Chamber of Commerce and the private sector. It also included plans to reactivate previous agreements to enhance port operations and expand its area to accommodate industrial and commercial facilities.
