Member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Hadhramaut, Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi, officially launched the national vaccination campaign against measles and rubella today in the city of Mukalla. The campaign will run from November 7 to November 12, targeting children aged six months to under five years.
This initiative aims to enhance public health measures and protect children from epidemic diseases. It seeks to limit the spread of measles and rubella and their complications by expanding vaccination coverage and ensuring that vaccines reach all targeted children across various districts.
In the coastal districts of Hadhramaut, the campaign aims to vaccinate 102,567 boys and girls. In the districts of Wadi and Desert Hadhramaut, the target population includes 77,373 children. Overall, the national campaign will cover approximately 957,000 children across 100 districts in ten governorates, supported by the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
Al-Khanbashi emphasized the importance of parental involvement in vaccinating their children. He urged parents to cooperate with both fixed and mobile health teams, stressing the need to reach all targeted children without exception. Vaccination serves as a crucial line of defense against diseases and their complications.
Dr. Ahmed Bin Nuisar, Director of the Public Health and Population Office in Coastal Hadhramaut, confirmed that technical and field preparations for the campaign are complete. This includes equipping health centers, mobilizing teams, training health personnel, and ensuring all necessary resources are available to reach the targeted groups.
Bin Nuisar called on local authorities, relevant organizations, community leaders, and media outlets to contribute to the campaign’s success. He highlighted the importance of raising community awareness about vaccination and encouraging families to participate. Protecting children’s health is a shared responsibility that requires coordinated efforts from both official and community sectors.
The launch event was attended by the Assistant Governor of Hadhramaut for Youth Affairs and Civil Society Organizations, Dr. Murad Baalawi, the Director General of Mukalla City, Fayyad Baamer, and several officials, health personnel, and volunteers involved in the campaign.
