Meeting Between Yemeni Leadership and U.S. Charge d’Affaires

On Tuesday, Sheikh Othman Majali, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Neil Hope, the U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Yemen. This meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing shared concerns.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During their discussion, Majali and Hope explored various avenues to enhance cooperation between Yemen and the United States. They emphasized the ongoing efforts to combat Houthi terrorism and piracy, as well as the need to protect vital maritime routes in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. The conversation also highlighted the importance of cutting off Iranian supply lines that provide weapons, money, and drugs to the Houthis.

U.S. Role in Countering Iranian Influence

Majali praised the significant role of the United States in curbing Iranian terrorism and its regional proxies. He noted that Iran has spent recent years establishing terrorist bases in Yemen and the surrounding region. This strategy has aimed to destabilize Yemen and threaten regional security by supporting groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS.

Support from Saudi Arabia

Majali acknowledged the invaluable support from Saudi Arabia, both from its leadership and its people. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia has dedicated its resources to help Yemen transition from war to development, focusing on reconstruction and economic stability.

Resistance Against Houthi Aggression

Majali pointed out that the people of Saada were among the first to resist the Houthi agenda during the six Saada wars. He credited local tribes with playing a crucial role in opposing the Houthis. He stressed the urgent need to liberate Yemeni children from the influence of this terrorist militia, which seeks to indoctrinate them with violence and criminal behavior.

Houthi Investments and Regional Security

Majali criticized the investments made by the Houthis and Iran in Yemen, labeling them as militaristic rather than developmental or humanitarian. He argued that these efforts focus on militarizing the country and building military bases to threaten neighboring states. He reiterated that supporting Yemen in overcoming the Iranian-Houthi agenda aligns with the genuine partnership between Yemen and the United States, which aims to protect global trade and restore regional stability.

U.S. Commitment to Yemen’s Security

In response, Neil Hope commended the efforts of the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni government. He highlighted the importance of coordinated actions regarding issues affecting the relationship between the two nations.
