The member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Sultan Al-Arada, recently met with Egyptian Military Attaché, Brigadier General Samer Shaban. They discussed ways to strengthen joint cooperation in military and security fields.
During the meeting, Al-Arada addressed the latest developments on both national and regional levels. He highlighted the ongoing escalation of Houthi militia activities in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf, emphasizing the threats these pose to maritime navigation and global trade.
Al-Arada stressed the need for enhanced coordination between Yemen and Egypt to tackle current security challenges in the Red Sea. He underscored the importance of securing vital waterways, particularly the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. He praised Egypt’s pivotal role in maintaining security and stability in Yemen and the broader region.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait holds immense strategic importance. Al-Arada explained that any security threat to this vital maritime corridor could significantly impact the global economy and maritime traffic, including the Suez Canal. Given its status as one of the world’s key maritime routes, it serves as a crucial artery for global trade and energy movement. He reiterated that ongoing Houthi attacks on commercial and oil vessels in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf necessitate regional and international action to ensure the stability of international trade and uninterrupted maritime navigation.
Al-Arada commended the Arab Republic of Egypt for its supportive stance and efforts in hosting hundreds of thousands of Yemenis, providing them with essential facilities. He viewed these sincere fraternal gestures from the Egyptian government and people as a reflection of the deep historical ties between the two nations and their peoples.
Brigadier General Samer Shaban expressed his eagerness to enhance cooperation and coordination between the two countries in military and security domains. He emphasized that such efforts would contribute to achieving mutual interests and addressing current challenges.
The meeting also included the military attaché from the Yemeni embassy in Saudi Arabia, Brigadier General Yahya Al-Wa’il.
