Minister Discusses Climate and Development Report in Amman

In a significant meeting held today in Amman, Jordan, Yemen’s Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, engaged with Dina Abu Ghaida, the World Bank Director for Yemen. They discussed the preparations for the upcoming launch of the Climate and Development Report, scheduled for next week in the temporary capital, Aden. This report, created by the World Bank Group in collaboration with the Yemeni government, aims to address pressing environmental and developmental issues.

Importance of Collaboration

Minister Al-Sharjabi praised the strong partnership between the Ministry of Water and Environment and the World Bank. He acknowledged the vital support the bank has provided to the water sector over the past years. Furthermore, he highlighted the challenges facing Yemen’s water sector, particularly due to the ongoing conflict and the adverse effects of climate change. Yemen ranks among the countries most affected by these changes, impacting various sectors.

Commitment to Sustainable Projects

The minister emphasized the necessity of maintaining a strong relationship between the ministry, the World Bank, and other partners throughout all phases of project planning and implementation. This collaboration is crucial for ensuring the preservation of water and environmental resources, as well as the sustainability of ongoing projects.

Continued Support from the World Bank

In response, Abu Ghaida underscored the importance of ongoing coordination with the Yemeni government at every stage. She reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Yemen’s water and environmental sanitation sectors. The bank aims to help Yemen navigate the challenges posed by its current situation, ensuring that critical services remain available to the population.

This meeting marks a pivotal step in addressing Yemen’s environmental and developmental needs, reinforcing international support for the country’s recovery and resilience efforts.
