Aden Hosts Coordination Meeting to Combat Cholera Ahead of School Year

In a crucial step towards public health and education, a coordination meeting was held today in Aden, the temporary capital, bringing together the Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasim Buhaibeh, and the Minister of Education, Tariq Al-Akbari. The meeting’s primary focus was on discussing necessary interventions to combat the cholera outbreak.

High-Risk Areas and Preventive Measures

The discussion highlighted a list of directorates at high risk of acute watery diarrhea and cholera, emphasizing the need for greater intervention focus in these areas. Strategies to contain the disease and prevent its spread among school students were at the forefront of the meeting’s agenda.

Enhancing Awareness and Education

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to identifying the best ways to promote educational and awareness messages across schools in all governorates. The goal is to elevate awareness about the disease, its prevention methods among students, parents, and teachers, thereby fostering a community-wide protective stance against cholera.

United Efforts and Inter-Ministerial Coordination

Dr. Buhaibeh underscored the importance of uniting efforts to contain acute watery diarrhea and cholera cases, especially among younger age groups who are more susceptible to complications. On his part, Minister Al-Akbari stressed the need for increased coordination between the ministries of health and education to prevent the disease from spreading within the school environment.

This meeting marks a proactive approach to health and education management in Yemen, aiming to safeguard the well-being of students and the broader community from cholera. As the new school year approaches, these coordinated efforts are critical in mitigating the impact of cholera and ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.
