Young Man Dies in Houthi Militia Custody After Abduction

A young man has tragically died in the custody of the Houthi militia shortly after his abduction from his farm in the Bani Hashish district of Sana’a Governorate.

Details of the Abduction

Fahmi Al-Zubairi, the Director of the Human Rights Office in the capital, reported that on Sunday, the Houthi militia stormed the farm, looted it, and abducted the 18-year-old guard, Issam Al-Zurf. Following his abduction, the militia detained him in one of their prisons in the capital.

Circumstances of the Death

Al-Zubairi highlighted in a post on his Facebook page that Al-Zurf died within hours of being taken captive. This incident underscores the ongoing human rights violations perpetrated by the Houthi militia.

Ongoing Violations and Call for Justice

Al-Zubairi condemned this brutal crime, noting that it is part of a larger pattern of thousands of violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians, including killings, torture, abductions, and theft. He emphasized that the national memory will not forget these tragedies and called for justice and redress for all victims.

Historical Context of Abuses

Over the past several years, human rights organizations have documented the deaths of numerous detainees in Houthi prisons due to torture. Some individuals have been released during prisoner exchanges, but many return in poor health, with some suffering from permanent disabilities.

This incident highlights the urgent need for accountability and the protection of human rights in Yemen.
