The General Administration for Quality and Infection Control at the Ministry of Public Health and Population organized a scientific event today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen. This event, held in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), focused on the importance of diagnosis for ensuring patient safety. It coincided with World Patient Safety Day.
The event targeted final-year students from medical, dental, pharmacy, and nursing colleges. Its primary goal was to enhance awareness regarding quality issues and patient safety. Participants learned about the significance of accurately taking medical histories and conducting physical examinations to achieve effective diagnoses, ultimately ensuring appropriate treatment.
During the opening session, Dr. Ameen Salman, Director General of the General Administration for Quality and Infection Control, emphasized the necessity of obtaining accurate patient diagnoses. He highlighted the importance of delivering high-quality healthcare and minimizing medical errors. Dr. Salman outlined the goals of enhancing quality governance at all levels, improving patient safety in healthcare facilities, and building the capacity of healthcare staff. He also stressed the need for community and stakeholder involvement to ensure patient safety and the integrity of health information.
The event featured several informative lectures. Dr. Ameen Salman discussed the role of quality management in promoting a culture of quality in healthcare. Dr. Duaa Shihab addressed the WHO’s contributions to patient safety. Dr. Bashir Al-Fadhli provided an introduction to quality and patient safety, while Dr. Sheikh Abdul Hafiz spoke about the role of accurate diagnosis in protecting patients.
Prominent figures attended the event, including Dr. Rajaa Abdo Ahmed Salem, Dean of the Nursing College; Dr. Majed Ali Bin Ali, Dean of the Dental College; Dr. Mohammed Sheikh, Vice Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences; Dr. Eman Basidik, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Sinaa Abdullah Youssef, Head of the Community Health Department at the University of Aden. Several academics also participated, reflecting the event’s importance in the academic and healthcare community.
This initiative underscores the commitment of Yemen’s health authorities to improve patient safety and quality of care across the nation.
