Al-Hadar, a resident of the Azza area in Al-Bayda, died on July 20, 2026. His death resulted from systematic torture and denial of medical care. Authorities arrested him in the capital, Sana’a, in late May without a judicial warrant or explanation of the charges. Subsequently, they transferred him, shackled, to Al-Bayda.

Eyewitness Accounts

According to testimonies from close associates, the victim exhibited severe signs of torture and brutal beating. Despite his deteriorating health, prison officials refused to transfer him to a hospital. This negligence raises serious concerns, suggesting that his death constitutes intentional homicide due to torture and medical neglect.

Concerns Over Body Retention

The organization highlighted that the continued retention of Al-Hadar’s body in a hospital morgue, under the pretext of an “investigation committee,” aims to obscure the crime and deny the family their right to a proper burial according to Islamic law and international agreements.

Calls for Action

The center demands an impartial forensic examination of the body to document the torture evidence. It also insists on the immediate release of the body to the family without conditions. Furthermore, the organization urges an end to intimidation and security pressure against the victim’s family and residents of Azza, while advocating for legal protection for witnesses.

In its concluding statement, the center emphasized the need for criminal accountability for all individuals involved in this crime, particularly the director of the Central Prison in Al-Bayda. It calls for their prosecution for committing torture leading to death and systematic medical neglect.
