Urgent Action Required to Improve Yemen’s Electricity Services

Meeting Highlights Need for Swift Implementation of Fuel Agreement

On Wednesday, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with Minister of Electricity and Energy, Adnan Al-Kaf. During this meeting, Al-Mahrami emphasized the urgent need to expedite the implementation of the agreement signed with the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen. This agreement focuses on supplying fuel to electricity generation stations, aiming to enhance electricity services and alleviate the suffering of citizens, especially amid rising temperatures and increasing energy demands.

Government and Technical Efforts Must Intensify

Al-Mahrami, joined by General Director of the Public Electricity Corporation, Mujib Al-Shaabi, and General Director of Regulation and Supervision at the Ministry of Electricity, Rami Alwan, stressed the importance of intensifying government and technical efforts. He called for ensuring that fuel reaches generation stations according to the agreed mechanisms. Swift execution of these procedures is crucial for stabilizing the electrical system and improving essential services for citizens.

Minister Provides Update on Sector Challenges

During the meeting, Al-Mahrami listened to an update from Minister Al-Kaf regarding the current state of the electricity sector. The minister outlined the challenges faced by the ministry and the ongoing steps to implement the agreement. These efforts aim to enhance the operational capacity of generation stations in the temporary capital, Aden, and other liberated provinces.

Acknowledging Public Concerns and Protests

Al-Mahrami expressed his full understanding of the legitimate public demands and peaceful protests by citizens calling for improved basic services, particularly electricity. He acknowledged that these demands reflect real suffering, necessitating increased efforts to address them. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining the peaceful nature of protests while ensuring public and private property security.

Political Leadership Prioritizes Service Improvement

Al-Mahrami reaffirmed that improving services and meeting citizens’ needs remains a top priority for the political leadership and government. He urged for collaborative efforts between official entities and the community to overcome current challenges, enhance stability, and support development and services in the country.

Minister Expresses Gratitude for Support

In response, Minister Al-Kaf expressed his gratitude to Al-Mahrami for his ongoing attention and support regarding electricity issues. He emphasized that the member’s directives and backing significantly contribute to efforts aimed at improving service levels and alleviating citizens’ hardships.

This meeting underscores the urgent need for action to enhance Yemen’s electricity services, reflecting a commitment from both leadership and the ministry to address the pressing challenges faced by the population.
