On Thursday, Abdulrahman al-Mahrami, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, held an extensive meeting with European Union ambassadors, led by EU Mission Chief Patrick Simonnet. The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and expanding existing partnerships, particularly in supporting government reforms, development funding, humanitarian interventions, and institutional building.
During the meeting, participants addressed the ongoing peace process amid the Houthi militia’s persistent intransigence and lack of genuine engagement in political dialogue. Al-Mahrami emphasized the need for increased international pressure to encourage the militia to pursue peace.
He urged the European Union to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization. Al-Mahrami reiterated that the option for peace remains viable but hinges on the seriousness of the opposing party. He stated, “We are ready for peace through the political process, and our armed forces are fully prepared to maintain security and stability while protecting national gains.”
The meeting underscored the importance of securing international waterways and supporting regional and international efforts in this critical area. Ensuring the stability of global trade and maritime security in the region is essential.
On the security front, the meeting reviewed the latest developments in the temporary capital of Aden and the liberated provinces. Al-Mahrami noted significant improvements in security performance, attributing this progress to ongoing efforts to establish stability and combat various threats.
In terms of economic and administrative issues, the meeting stressed the necessity of supporting government reform efforts. These reforms aim to alleviate citizens’ suffering and enhance essential services.
The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on the significance of Southern-Southern dialogue as a pivotal pathway to address the Southern issue and foster consensus among various parties. Al-Mahrami praised Saudi Arabia’s role in hosting this dialogue and its continuous support for efforts to bridge differences and promote regional stability.
This meeting marks a crucial step in reinforcing international partnerships and addressing pressing issues in Yemen, particularly in the context of ongoing conflicts and humanitarian challenges.
