On Tuesday, Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, a member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Abda Sharif, the UK Ambassador to Yemen. The meeting aimed to explore ways to enhance the bilateral relationship between the two nations and discuss recent developments in Yemen.
During the meeting, Al-Mahrami highlighted ongoing efforts to establish security and stability in Aden, Yemen’s temporary capital. He discussed the strategic repositioning of military forces outside the city. This initiative aims to promote a civilian atmosphere in Aden, reduce military presence, and foster public reassurance.
Al-Mahrami also informed the British ambassador about preparations for the anticipated Southern Dialogue in Riyadh, sponsored by Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that this dialogue represents a critical juncture for unifying the southern factions and building a cohesive national partnership that meets citizens’ aspirations. He called for broad international support for the dialogue’s outcomes to enhance regional stability.
Al-Mahrami praised the UK’s supportive stance towards Yemen, underscoring the importance of British involvement in comprehensive reform efforts. He noted that such support is crucial for addressing economic challenges and alleviating the suffering of citizens exacerbated by the actions of the Houthi militia.
In response, Ambassador Sharif expressed the UK’s appreciation for the practical steps taken in the security sector in Aden. She reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to ongoing coordination and collaboration to promote stability and institutional development. Additionally, she reiterated the UK’s dedication to supporting dialogue initiatives aimed at fulfilling citizens’ aspirations and building a secure future.
