A meeting chaired by the Attorney General discusses coordination mechanisms to combat smuggling crimes.

Meeting in Aden Focuses on Combating Smuggling Crimes

A crucial meeting took place today in Aden, the temporary capital of Yemen, led by Attorney General Qaher Mustafa. The gathering aimed to enhance coordination and collaboration between the Public Prosecution and relevant authorities to combat various smuggling crimes, including customs violations, trafficking of goods and antiquities, gold smuggling, drug trafficking, and the illegal trade of military and dual-use equipment.

Key Participants and Discussions

The meeting included prominent figures such as First Public Prosecutor Fawzi Saif, Attorney General for Public Funds Nabil Jobah, Head of the Public Funds Prosecution Abdullah Salem, and representatives from tax and customs prosecution offices, as well as the Anti-Corruption Prosecution. Additionally, the Head of Customs Authority Abdulhakim Al-Qabati participated, along with other relevant stakeholders.

During the discussions, the Attorney General emphasized the necessity of documenting incidents and summoning the Public Prosecution to secure evidence. He stressed that the Public Prosecution holds the exclusive authority to manage seized items according to the law, underscoring the importance of not handing over these items to any other entity.

Urgent Legal Actions Required

The Attorney General called for swift legal actions from specialized prosecution offices dealing with economic cases and public health issues. He highlighted that these actions are vital for reinforcing the rule of law and establishing a strong state framework.

Challenges Facing Law Enforcement

The meeting also addressed significant challenges facing law enforcement agencies. One major issue is the interference of unauthorized entities in customs and security procedures at ports and airports.

In response, the Attorney General instructed immediate reporting of any unlawful interventions by judicial officers. He reiterated the importance of holding regular meetings to activate law enforcement roles and improve coordination among involved parties.

Conclusion

This meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening Yemen’s legal framework against smuggling and related crimes. By fostering collaboration among various authorities, the government aims to enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement and uphold the rule of law in the country.
