A delegation from the Parliament, led by member Abdulrazak Al-Hajri and accompanied by member Salem Mansour Haidra, participated today in the opening session of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jakarta, Indonesia. The conference, themed "Governance, Good Governance, and Strengthening Robust Institutions as the Foundation of Resilience," welcomed Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
This conference coincides with several challenges facing the Islamic nation. Its primary goal is to address common issues of concern to member states, with a strong emphasis on political and economic matters. Notably, the Palestinian cause remains a top priority for the organization.
During the opening session, the presidency of the union transitioned from the outgoing president, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, to the new president, Puan Maharani, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives. Indonesia is hosting the current session of the union.
Several speeches highlighted the significance of this session and the achievements made by the union and its various structures. Speakers also acknowledged the sensitive context in which the conference takes place, particularly the extraordinary circumstances faced by the Palestinian people due to the ongoing aggression from Israeli authorities. The agenda includes discussions on enhancing collaborative efforts to support the Palestinian people and the importance of advocating for the Palestinian cause.
This conference serves as a crucial platform for member states to unite and address pressing issues, reaffirming their commitment to collective action and solidarity.
