Citizen Killed by Landmine Explosion in Al-Jawf

A tragic incident occurred in Al-Jawf Governorate, where a local citizen lost his life due to the explosion of a landmine. This landmine is part of the remnants left by the Iran-backed Houthi militia.

Incident Details

Local sources reported that Muhammad Saleh Al-Zar’i was killed on Sunday when the landmine detonated in the Salan area of the Al-Masloub district. This incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by unexploded ordnance in the region.

Al-Jawf: A Landmine Hotspot

Al-Jawf ranks among the most affected provinces in Yemen due to the extensive use of landmines by the Houthi militia. These explosives continue to claim the lives of innocent civilians, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the area.

The Scale of the Landmine Crisis

The Houthi militia has previously planted hundreds of thousands of landmines and explosive devices in residential neighborhoods and public roads across various Yemeni cities. This reckless behavior has resulted in thousands of civilian casualties, with women and children making up the majority of the victims.

International Concerns

The Yemeni government, along with the United Nations and various international organizations, accuses the Houthi militia of littering Yemeni land with over two million landmines. This alarming statistic represents the highest rate of landmine deployment since World War II, raising significant concerns about the safety and security of the local population.

The ongoing threat of landmines in Yemen underscores the urgent need for international attention and action. As the situation continues to evolve, efforts to clear these dangerous remnants of conflict are critical to ensuring the safety of civilians in affected areas.
