Civilian Killed by Houthi Gunfire in Taiz: A New Addition to Ongoing Violations

A civilian lost his life today, Saturday, due to gunfire from a Houthi militia member in Taiz, located in southwestern Yemen. This incident marks yet another violation against civilians in a region heavily affected by sniper attacks and direct targeting.

Details of the Incident

The Ministry of Interior’s security media reported that the victim, identified as (A.M.A.S.), was 26 years old. He sustained a gunshot wound while in the village of Sirbit, within the Sar’a Isolation of the Sabir Al-Mawadim district. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Authorities transported his body to the hospital’s morgue to complete legal procedures and document the incident according to standard protocols.

A Pattern of Houthi Targeting of Civilians

The Ministry emphasized that this incident falls within the increasing record of Houthi violations against civilians. The militia continues to use weapons to impose taxes and extort money, targeting citizens at checkpoints and in residential areas.

Taiz: The Most Affected Province by Houthi Sniper Crimes

The Yemeni Women Empowerment Foundation (YWEF) documented that, as of early April, Houthi snipers had killed and injured 3,530 civilians over the past decade. This includes:

  • 2,730 civilian fatalities
  • Over 800 injuries, primarily affecting women and children, from 2015 to 2025.

The foundation confirmed that Taiz ranks as the province most impacted by sniper crimes, with ongoing attacks on residential neighborhoods exacerbating the suffering of its residents. Daily life has transformed into a perilous environment.

Systematic Targeting of Civilian Life

The foundation noted that these crimes have evolved from isolated incidents into a systematic pattern of direct targeting against civilian life in several provinces, particularly Taiz. The militia employs sniping and intimidation tactics to subjugate the population and assert control through force.

This ongoing violence raises serious concerns about the safety and well-being of civilians in Yemen, particularly in Taiz, where the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen.
