President Alimi Discusses U.S.-Yemen Relations and Local Developments

On Monday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed Neil Hope, the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Yemen. The two leaders discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between their countries and explored avenues for enhancing and developing these ties.

Local Situation and Houthi Violations

During the meeting, they addressed the latest local developments across various fronts. This included military and field developments amid the ongoing escalation of Houthi militia terrorist attacks within Yemen and across the border with Saudi Arabia. They also reviewed coordinated efforts with the international community to bolster security and stability in the region.

President Alimi highlighted the severe local conditions and the grave violations committed by the Houthi militia. These violations include killings, torture, arbitrary arrests, searches, and forced displacement, along with pressures related to recruitment and forced mobilization.

Humanitarian Crisis in Taiz

The discussion also touched on the suffocating retaliatory blockade imposed by the Houthis on the residents of Taiz. The citizens face extreme hardships due to the obstruction of water, fuel supplies, and essential needs. President Alimi emphasized the urgent need to support efforts that ensure the delivery of water, food, and medicine, facilitate civilian movement, and open vital supply routes for life-saving assistance.

“Fajr Yemen” Initiative

President Alimi reviewed the pathways of the “Fajr Yemen” initiative aimed at restoring state institutions. He stated that this initiative will continue to achieve its comprehensive objectives, which extend beyond military action. It also focuses on protecting the population, restoring services, creating conditions for recovery and reconstruction, and ensuring the regular operation of institutions and services provided to citizens.

Gratitude to Saudi Arabia

The President expressed deep gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leadership, government, and people, for their steadfast support of these initiatives and their assistance to the Yemeni government and people on all political, economic, and humanitarian levels.

Attendance

Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, attended the meeting.
