Yemen’s Leadership Reaffirms Commitment to Peace Efforts
On Wednesday, President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Alimi, head of the Presidential Leadership Council, welcomed United Nations Special Envoy Hans Grundberg. The meeting took place with the presence of Dr. Shaia Al-Zandani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
Focus on De-escalation and Political Revitalization
During the meeting, President Alimi listened attentively as Grundberg provided an update on his recent communications aimed at de-escalating tensions and revitalizing the political process. This process has faced significant challenges due to the actions of the Houthi militias, which have received backing from the Iranian regime.
Support for UN Initiatives
President Alimi, representing the council and the government, reiterated their full support for the United Nations’ efforts to initiate a comprehensive political process. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the agreed-upon national, regional, and international frameworks, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216.
Highlighting Human Rights Violations
The President underscored the necessity of maintaining local, regional, and international attention on the Houthi militias’ actions. He pointed out the severe human rights violations perpetrated by these groups, including campaigns of repression, torture, and abduction targeting numerous activists and employees of the United Nations and humanitarian organizations in Yemen.

The meeting also included the Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations, Abdullah Al-Saadi, and Yemen’s Ambassador to the United States, Mohammed Al-Hadhrami. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort to address the ongoing crisis in Yemen and support the UN’s initiatives for peace.
