Mine Removal Efforts Continue in Yemen

The “Masam” project for mine clearance in Yemen has continued its field operations to cleanse the land from mines and unexploded ordnance. During the first week of October, the project recorded the removal of 1,256 mines and munitions, according to a statement from the project’s operations room.

Details of Field Operations

The operations room clarified that the weekly total included:

  • 1,201 unexploded munitions
  • 41 anti-tank mines
  • 14 anti-personnel mines

Additionally, project teams managed to clear 157,127 square meters of land in several affected areas last week.

Achievements of Masam Teams in Midi

In the Midi district, the operations room reported that teams have removed since the start of their work in the area:

  • 13,284 mines, unexploded munitions, and explosive devices

The cleared area in Midi reached 4,927,831 square meters.

Total Achievements Since Project Launch

Osama Al-Qusaybi, the Director General of the Masam project, announced that teams have removed a total of:

  • 594,745 mines, unexploded munitions, and explosive devices since the project began in June 2018 until October 2, 2026
  • Of which, 425,161 were unexploded munitions
  • 153,148 were anti-tank mines
  • 7,749 were anti-personnel mines
  • 8,687 were explosive devices

In terms of land clearance, project teams have successfully cleared 85,969,389 square meters of Yemeni land since the project’s inception.

These operations form part of the ongoing efforts of the “Masam” project to address mines and war remnants, cleanse contaminated areas, and reduce their risks to the population. This work contributes to protecting civilians and restoring life to affected regions.
