Houthi Violations Documented in Taiz

A recent report from the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented 61 violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians in Taiz Governorate, located in southwestern Yemen, over the past 24 hours.

Details of the Violations

The network stated in a press release on Saturday that its field team recorded 61 Houthi violations, resulting in human and material damage affecting civilians and public and private properties in Taiz. These violations included killings, injuries, field executions, shelling of residential neighborhoods, and targeting of citizens’ homes, vehicles, and roads.

According to the report, Houthi assaults led to the deaths of five civilians, including women and an infant. Additionally, 22 civilians sustained injuries, comprising seven women and six children. The shelling caused damage to 21 homes, both partially and completely, and affected 12 private vehicles, along with targeting several main and public roads.

Specific Incidents

The network highlighted a case of field execution involving a citizen named Hamoud Abdullah Saif Al-Rajhi, who was killed by Houthi gunmen inside his home in front of his children and wife in the Al-Jabal isolation of the Samah district, south of Taiz. This incident occurred after he refused to allow them to convert his home into a sniper position.

Ongoing Attacks and Their Impact

The report noted that these violations coincided with continuous Houthi shelling of residential areas and civilian properties, causing further damage to homes and vehicles. The targeting of roads has complicated residents’ movement and access to medical care and basic necessities, exacerbating the impact of the assaults on affected families.

Humanitarian Crisis

The report indicated that this escalation coincided with a suffocating siege that has contributed to shortages of food, medicine, and other essential requirements, worsening the suffering of civilians.

Call for Action

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms emphasized that the documented figures do not reflect the full extent of the violations, as ongoing confrontations have hindered its field team’s access to all areas and incidents. The network clarified that these numbers remain preliminary and subject to updates as monitoring and verification continue. Furthermore, the reported casualty figures do not represent a comprehensive account of the assaults or the damage inflicted on properties.

The network condemned the Houthi crimes and violations in the strongest terms, urging the militia to immediately cease attacks on civilians and civilian objects, lift the siege, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

It called on the international community, regional and local organizations, activists, and media outlets to intensify pressure to protect the residents of Taiz, highlight their suffering, and prevent further assaults against them.

The network urged the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen and the International Committee of the Red Cross to take urgent action, each within their jurisdiction, to facilitate the evacuation and treatment of the wounded, organize relief convoys to affected villages and areas, and provide food, medicine, and shelter for families who have lost their homes.
