Yemeni Foreign Minister Discusses Houthi Escalation with Tunisian Counterpart

Yemeni Foreign Minister Dr. Afrah Al-Zubaidi held a phone conversation today with Mohamed Nafthi, the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad. They discussed the ongoing situation in Yemen, particularly the continuous escalation by Houthi militias, which receive support from the Iranian regime. The conversation also addressed the implications of this escalation on internal stability and the security of the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the call, both ministers explored ways to enhance and develop the bilateral relations between Yemen and Tunisia. They also reviewed the latest developments in the Arab and regional arenas.

Prioritizing Citizen Protection

Dr. Al-Zubaidi emphasized the Yemeni government’s priority in protecting its citizens and maintaining the functionality of its institutions. She reiterated the importance of asserting Yemen’s sovereignty over its entire territory and preventing the use of Yemeni land and coasts as platforms to threaten neighboring countries and international navigation.

Acknowledging Supportive Ties

The Yemeni Foreign Minister praised the distinguished bilateral relations between Yemen and Tunisia, highlighting their continuous development across various fields. She expressed appreciation for Tunisia’s supportive stance towards Yemen, particularly during its presidency of the 166th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level. Dr. Al-Zubaidi acknowledged Tunisia’s efforts in promoting Arab cooperation and enhancing coordination on regional issues and challenges.

Tunisia’s Commitment to Yemen

In response, Minister Nafthi reaffirmed Tunisia’s support for Yemen’s security, stability, unity, and territorial integrity. He expressed Tunisia’s commitment to developing cooperation between the two countries and continuing consultations and coordination in Arab and international forums on issues of mutual interest.
