The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s “Masam” project successfully removed 798 landmines in the first week of June 2026 across several Yemeni provinces. This ongoing effort aims to protect civilians and reduce the risks posed by landmines indiscriminately planted by Houthi militia.
Details of Removed Mines and Munitions
The total of 798 removed items included various types of explosives:
- 6 Anti-tank mines
- 11 Anti-personnel mines
- 781 Unexploded ordnance
Geographic Distribution of Removal Operations
“Masam” teams conducted their operations in multiple provinces, with the following distribution:
- Aden: Removed 226 unexploded munitions
- Al Hudaydah – Hays District: Removed 1 unexploded munition
- Hadhramaut – Mukalla: Removed 11 anti-personnel mines and 519 unexploded munitions
- Marib – Wadi District: Removed 3 anti-tank mines
- Hajjah – Midi District: Removed 3 anti-tank mines and 22 unexploded munitions
- Taiz: Removed 9 unexploded munitions in Dhubab, 2 in Cairo, and 2 in Saluh
Total Removals Since Project Inception
Since its launch, the “Masam” project has removed a total of 565,137 landmines and unexploded munitions. These explosives, planted randomly by Houthi militia, continue to pose a significant threat to civilian lives, particularly affecting children, women, and the elderly.
