In a tragic turn of events, 11 individuals, including women and children, have lost their lives in the past few hours due to lightning strikes accompanying heavy rains across several Yemeni provinces.
Local sources reported that the province of Hajjah witnessed the deaths of four people in various incidents on Sunday evening due to the lightning strikes. The casualties included Ahmed Ali Abdullah Al-Asadi in the Al-Mahabisha district, Mansour Ahmed Qasim Al-Talhi in the Keshar district, Fouad Ali Mohammed Maqdam in the Al-Miftah district, and the wife of Mohammed Abdu Ali in the Qafr Shamar district.
In the province of Sana’a, Ayoub Ali Mansour Al-Waqsha and Dhafer Mohsen Marit Al-Hania lost their lives in separate incidents in the Nehm district, east of the province. Additionally, the wife and daughter of Saleh Saeed Farhan tragically died in a similar incident in the Al-Hada district of Dhamar.
Local sources in Marib province reported the deaths of a woman and a man due to lightning strikes, with others injured. Meanwhile, a young man named Yahya Al-Jurbi Al-Marani from the Al-Marashi district in Al-Jouf province also fell victim to a lightning strike amid heavy rainfall.
Since the beginning of the rainy season in March, lightning strikes have claimed the lives of dozens, with the majority of fatalities occurring from late June through August. This period has proven particularly deadly, highlighting the severe impact of seasonal weather phenomena in the region.
This series of unfortunate events underscores the dangers posed by natural disasters in Yemen, a country already grappling with complex humanitarian challenges. The loss of lives due to lightning strikes during this rainy season calls for increased awareness and preparedness to mitigate future tragedies.
