Young man wounded by Houthi sniper fire in Al-Rawdah district, north of Taiz city.

Sniper Attack Injures Young Man in Taiz

In a distressing incident emerging from the city of Taiz, human rights sources have reported that a young man was severely injured by a sniper bullet from the Houthi militia, a group labeled as terrorist. The attack underscores the ongoing violence and the peril civilians face in the embattled region.

Victim Undergoing Treatment

Ishraq Al-Maqtari, a member of the National Committee for Investigation, revealed late yesterday that the victim, identified as Mohammed Ammar Khaled Mohammed, a high school junior, has been receiving medical treatment at Al-Thawra General Hospital in Taiz since last Tuesday. The young man suffered a gunshot wound to his neck, inflicted by a Houthi sniper, which has left a bullet lodged in his shoulder.

Mohammed, who resides in the Al-Rawdha neighborhood adjacent to Baktheer School in the northern part of Taiz city, was targeted in what appears to be an unprovoked attack. Al-Maqtari noted that the incident occurred while Mohammed was working in the evening to support his family’s livelihood.

Ongoing Houthi Assaults on Civilians

The Houthi militias continue to carry out sniper operations, deliberately targeting civilians, including women and children, across various parts of Taiz province. The region has been under siege by the group for over nine years, with systematic shelling aimed at residential areas and villages.

This latest attack is part of a broader pattern of violence that has devastated the lives of countless civilians in Taiz, highlighting the urgent need for a cessation of hostilities and a return to peace talks. The international community remains concerned about the escalating violence and its impact on the civilian population in Yemen.
