Strengthening Counter-Terrorism Efforts in Yemen: A Collaborative Approach

In a significant meeting aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, engaged in discussions with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov. The focus of their dialogue was on enhancing and developing cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts and law enforcement, as well as boosting Yemen’s capabilities to combat this challenging issue.

Supporting Yemen’s National Strategies

Ambassador Al-Saadi emphasized the importance of providing support to Yemen, highlighting the need to enhance the implementation of national strategies, capacity building, and the strengthening of legal and institutional frameworks. He also pointed out the critical role of training needs and the development of national capabilities in information gathering and assessment. Furthermore, Al-Saadi underscored the value of bolstering regional and international cooperation to address the terrorist threats facing the region.

On his part, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Voronkov, reaffirmed the importance of uniting efforts to combat terrorism. Voronkov expressed his office’s readiness to provide support to the Yemeni government, showcasing a commitment to a collective effort in addressing and mitigating the threat of terrorism.
