Drug Enforcement Agency Reports Major Drug Busts

The General Directorate for Drug Control announced the arrest of 627 individuals involved in various drug-related offenses during the first half of this year. These arrests occurred as part of coordinated security operations across several liberated regions, in collaboration with military units and relevant security agencies.

Breakdown of Arrests

According to Major General Abdullah Al-Hamdi, the Director of Drug Control, the arrests included 625 males and 2 females. The charges against these individuals varied significantly, including:

  • 30 individuals for trafficking
  • 156 for promotion
  • 393 for consumption
  • 16 for smuggling
  • 3 for transportation
  • 1 for supplying narcotics
  • 27 for possession and other drug-related crimes

Overview of Drug Cases

Al-Hamdi further reported that security forces handled 310 drug cases during the same period. The breakdown of these cases is as follows:

  • 6 trafficking cases
  • 77 promotion cases
  • 207 consumption cases
  • 6 smuggling cases
  • 4 transportation cases
  • 1 case of supplying narcotics
  • 9 miscellaneous cases

Quantity of Seized Substances

The operations resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of various drugs, detailed in the table below:

Intelligence and Community Awareness

Al-Hamdi noted that intelligence reports suggest the smuggling operations originate from areas controlled by the Houthi militia, which receives support from the Iranian regime. He emphasized the urgent need for increased community awareness regarding the dangers of drugs and their impact on security and stability.

This comprehensive crackdown highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes and protect communities from the devastating effects of substance abuse.
