The Yemeni Coast Guard has successfully identified the location of the oil tanker, M/T EUREK, which was victim to an armed hijacking on Saturday. Unknown assailants boarded the vessel and seized control while it was situated off the coast of Shabwa.
According to a statement received by the Saba News Agency, preliminary information suggests that the armed hijackers have redirected the tanker towards the Gulf of Aden, steering it in the direction of the Somali coast. This development raises significant concerns about maritime security in the region.
In response to the hijacking, the Coast Guard units have promptly initiated operational procedures. They have dispatched two patrol boats from Aden and a smaller patrol vessel from Shabwa to engage in search and tracking operations. This swift response takes place despite the limited resources and exceptional circumstances currently confronting the nation.
The statement further emphasized that the Yemeni Coast Guard is actively coordinating with international partners and relevant authorities operating in the Gulf of Aden. They are dedicated to monitoring the situation closely and taking necessary actions to ensure the safety of the crew while attempting to recover the hijacked tanker. The situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as the Coast Guard continues its efforts to address this critical maritime security incident.
