Yemen Participates in the Twelfth Ministerial Meeting on Standardization in Bahrain

The Republic of Yemen participated today in the twelfth ministerial meeting of the Committee on Standardization, held in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Yemeni delegation was led by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Mohammed Al-Ashwal.

Key Discussions and Agenda Items

During the meeting, ministers, deputy ministers of industry and trade, and heads of standardization authorities from member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) discussed several agenda items. Notably, they reviewed the report from the head of the standardization authority regarding the authority’s activities from April to August 2026. The meeting also addressed support for the Gulf Accreditation Center and discussed policies for allocating financial surpluses in the accounts of the Gulf Standardization Authority.

Resolutions and Approvals

The meeting resulted in the adoption of 25 Gulf technical regulations. Additionally, the budget for the authority for the fiscal year 2027 was approved, and the Gulf Accreditation Center received an exemption from outstanding amounts. The meeting also extended the term of the presidency of the Gulf Standardization Authority.

Yemen’s Commitment to Standardization

In his speech representing Yemen, Minister Al-Ashwal emphasized the importance of enhancing the Gulf standardization system and developing its technical and legislative tools. He noted that these improvements should align with the rapid changes in trade and industry, contribute to the unification of specifications and technical regulations, enhance quality systems, ensure product safety, facilitate the flow of goods, and strengthen consumer protection. These efforts serve the shared economic interests of the region’s countries.

Strengthening Cooperation

Minister Al-Ashwal highlighted Yemen’s commitment to expanding cooperation and coordination with the Gulf Standardization Authority. He expressed the desire to benefit from its expertise and programs to develop the quality infrastructure and build the institutional and technical capacities of national authorities. He affirmed that enhancing integration in specifications, standards, and accreditation is a fundamental pillar for supporting product competitiveness, improving the trade and investment environment, and deepening economic integration between Yemen and GCC countries.

Participation of Yemeni Officials

The meeting also included the participation of the Executive Director of the Yemeni Authority for Standards, Metrology, and Quality Control, Engineer Hadeed Al-Mas.
