Yemen Participates in 60th Meeting of Arab Higher Committee for Standardization

The Republic of Yemen recently participated in the 60th meeting of the Arab Higher Committee for Standardization. This committee operates under the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization, and Mining. The Yemeni delegation, led by Engineer Hadeed Al-Mas, the Executive Director of the Yemeni Standards and Quality Control Authority, engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing regional cooperation.

Focus on Standardization and Quality

Held in Rabat, Morocco, the meeting focused on coordinating and intensifying Arab efforts to unify standard specifications. Participants discussed testing methods, quality assurance, and the development of standardized measurement and calibration systems. These initiatives aim to advance Arab standardization across various sectors under the umbrella of the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization, and Mining (AIDSMO).

Review of Previous Recommendations

The agenda also included a review of the recommendations from the 59th meeting of the committee. Delegates addressed the preparation and updating of unified Arab standard specifications. Additionally, they explored the development of electronic forums for standards and the implementation of decisions related to the Arab strategy for standardization and quality. Other topics included conformity assessment, recommendations for Arab building codes, the Arab Halal program, and the Arab Quality Award.

Recognition of Long-standing Partnership

During the meeting, Jim Olchefske, the Director of International Cooperation at ASTM International, presented a certificate to Engineer Al-Mas. This certificate recognized the partnership and collaboration between the Yemeni authority and ASTM over the past 15 years, dating back to 2010.

Outcomes and Future Directions

The meeting concluded with several recommendations and decisions aimed at unifying Arab standards. Participants emphasized the importance of developing strategies for collaborative work in standardization, conformity, and quality. These efforts seek to enhance industrial cooperation among Arab nations, support common Arab markets, and ensure the circulation of products that meet quality, performance, and safety standards. The discussions mark a significant step forward in promoting collaborative Arab efforts in the field of standardization.
