The Republic of Yemen participated today in the 40th session of the Arab Justice Ministers Council. This important meeting took place at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. A delegation led by Yemen’s Minister of Justice, Judge Badr Al-Aradah, represented the country.
During the opening remarks, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit emphasized the need to develop a collaborative judicial framework. He urged member states to strengthen and activate their mechanisms to address the challenges facing the Arab region. Aboul Gheit highlighted the significance of this session, both in terms of timing and the topics on the agenda.
In his address, Minister Al-Aradah stressed the importance of collective efforts and enhanced Arab cooperation. He noted that the current events in the Arab world demand appropriate decisions to tackle various challenges and risks. Al-Aradah called for the development of a unified legal and judicial framework to strengthen justice mechanisms and respond effectively to regional threats.
The meeting covered several critical topics related to the Arab judicial, legal, and justice systems. These discussions included strategies for combating terrorism, addressing cybercrime, and enhancing both Arab and international cooperation in these areas. Additionally, the council explored the unification of Arab legislation and several proposed agreements, including a draft convention on personal data protection.
The session also addressed proposals for establishing an Arab network to combat synthetic drugs. Furthermore, the ministers discussed ways to support justice ministries in enhancing their judicial institutions.
The meeting examined mechanisms to improve cooperation between the Secretariats of the Arab Justice and Interior Ministers Councils. It also outlined the technical secretariat’s work program between the 40th and 41st sessions and the formation of the council’s executive office members, among other agenda items.
This session represents a significant step towards fostering judicial cooperation in the Arab region, aiming to enhance legal frameworks and address pressing challenges collaboratively.
